What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is a brand-name form of a diluted bacterium, called botulinum toxin. Accidentally discovered to have anti-aging effects, these injectables quickly rose to the top of the list of cosmetic treatments for patients across the globe. They were also found out to have pain-relieving effects on patients as well, helping address muscles spasms and pain, like in patients with TMJ disorder. The esthetic results can last for between three and six months before the treatment needs to be administered again.

BOTOX for Cosmetic Uses

BOTOX is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Following your injection, the targeted facial muscle groups will cease to make unconscious movements. You will still be able to control and move the muscles of your face purposefully. BOTOX injections only limit unconscious, unnecessary movements. Results remain visible for between four and six months for most patients. To ensure you maintain flawless results, we’ll work with you to schedule ongoing maintenance appointments. Because this treatment is quick and painless, many patients receive these services as part of their regular six-month dental appointments. We can even fit you in over lunch.

BOTOX for TMJ Treatment

We also use BOTOX to relieve muscle-related pain in our dental office, specifically jaw pain and chronic migraines as a result of TMJ disorder. Depending on the severity of your migraines or TMJ dysfunction, we may need to see you every few months or more often. Every patient responds differently, so we will work with you to create an ongoing injection schedule to maintain your comfort. Patients who experience severe or chronic migraines typically notice a significant reduction in both the number of headache days and the severity of their migraines. Patients who suffer from TMJ dysfunction can expect significant relief from jaw pain as well as improved range of motion.

Is BOTOX Right for Me?

No treatment is right for every patient, but if you’re interested in BOTOX treatment, we invite you to schedule an appointment. We’ll walk you through the ins and outs of the process and help you determine whether or not BOTOX is right for you.
